Enovatek Energy – Hybrid Solar Air Conditioner

The Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa is a true tropical playground and the only beachfront resort in Singapore. Located at Sentosa, it is the perfect setting for a real Shangri-La that’s family-friendly, with an array of fine dining and recreational activities just steps from your guestroom or suite. Resort guests come to Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa to experience relaxation and enjoyment of mythic proportions. To do so, Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa provides temperature-controlled guestrooms and suites. However, meeting these requirements is expensive as it is not only costly, but the high energy usage also has an impact on the environment. Looking for a more affordable and reliable cooling system that is sustainable on the long run, Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa engaged Enovatek Energy to help reduce their air-conditioning costs and lower CO2 emissions. Enovatek Energy proposed to replace all of Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa’s indoor beachfront areas with the Enovatek Energy Hybrid Solar Air Conditioner as there were multiple shade-free areas on the property that had direct access to natural sunlight. Running on DC power, the Hybrid Solar Air Conditioner harvest power from solar panels during the day and switched to the conventional AC, the grid, in the evening or when there is insufficient sunlight. On a cloudy day, the system still draws as much power as possible from the sun’s irradiance. Being an intelligent system, the algorithm will always draw as much power as possible from renewable sources first, and then tap into conventional AC power. The solar air conditioning systems operate without inverters, batteries or controllers. Enovatek Energy built a standalone structure in an area that is close enough on the property yet not in the way of hotel guest activities and the resort’s daily operations for the 3 x 450 watts solar panels to sit on and to further save on PE costs. Using a BCA approved energy-monitoring device, Enovatek Energy collected data to monitor the amount of energy used and it’s costing of both Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa’s original air conditioning system, commonly found in offices and homes, and the newly installed 1.5 HP or 12000 BTU Enovatek Energy Hybrid Solar Air Conditioner. From the data, it’s evident that the adoption of smarter technologies can significantly reduce electricity consumption and CO2 emissions. The Solar Hybrid Air Conditioning system managed to draw 100% power from the sun for approximately 10 hours in a 24-hour period. Furthermore, the air conditioner did not use more than 1200 watts, and used lower power when the outdoor ambient temperature was cooler in AC mode. In time, Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa would have a return on investment in less than two years despite running the aircon 24 hours a day.
